I am an Ethiopian who was born and raised in America. I am the son of the legend singer, Yehunie Belay and hard working mother who loves and helps the Habesha community here in the United States. These factors have made me fortunate to learn the culture and lifestyle of both countries, but my heart is and will always be with Ethiopia and my people. I hope to be a symbol for the new generation of Habeshas both back at home and who were born and raised in America. I want this message to go out to all Habeshas all around the world:
Don’t forget your roots and the hard work your parents went through to get you here and make it so you have the opportunity to make something of yourself. Just as nothing would be possible without God, you would not be the man or woman you are today without the strong efforts of your parents. Thank them constantly and don’t let them forget how much you love them.
Also give back to your community! We are all a family and one country. Love each other like brothers and sisters because that’s what we are and we all share the same blood of our ancestors. Ethiopia, the African country who was not colonized and showed the people how strong we are!
I love you all and hope you will help me educate the ones who have forgotten our culture and the ones who are uniformed.
Long live Ethiopia
Your Anbessa,
