Umar Subi Gammeda made the unseemly remark subsequent to giving the 25-year-old lesbian a lift to Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley in August 2017.

The 46-year-old Ethiopian man had been visiting with his considerably more youthful traveler about whether she was hitched subsequent to gathering her from her internal city Paddington home, Brisbane Magistrates Court was told.

As they headed to the Fortitude Valley dance club region, the lady revealed to him she was gay.

Subi Gammeda reacted that homosexuality wasn’t supported in his nation of origin of Ethiopia.

His defence barrister Debra Wardle told the court her customer was sad for his conduct.

‘He completely acknowledges that it’s hostile here and he shouldn’t have said it,’ she said.

‘This offense truly comes down to cultural differences and not understanding, and he apologizes for the offense that he has caused.

Her customer was at first accused of deprivation of freedom after allegedly confining the client for over 60 minutes.

However, prosecutors pulled back that charge on Friday morning because of absence of proof.

The Uber driver rather conceded in Brisbane Magistrates Court to causing an open disturbance.

Since being charged, Subi Gammeda hasn’t filled in as a Uber driver and was jobless for a half year before finding an occupation as a worker at a chicken farm.

Ms Wardle advised the court he proposed to come back to work as a professional driver.

Subi Gammeda did not have a conviction recorded against his name.
