The US Embassy in addis Ababa held a Black history month program and concluded the program yesterday with virtual photo tour titled “Ethiopian and African American Unity and Friendship” by Andrew Laurence.
In Anderew Laurence collections of more than 100 pictures, Andrew demonstrates the friendship between Ethiopians and African Americans from the early 19th. Andrew is the son of the popular 1960’s Ethiopian dancer, Seyoum “Cha-Cha” Tekle-Haimanot, and an American mother. He grew up in foster care in New York City with an African American family. After studying liberal arts at Columbia University, Andrew has worked for the last 33 years as a Media Coordinator for the George Washington University. In his spare time, he is active in the Ethiopian and African American communities in the Washington, DC area. He also founded and runs a fair-trade textile business with his family in Ethiopia.
He also gave a well-attended live interactive video conference presentation for Black History Month with the US Embassy in Addis Ababa and the American Corners in Dire Dawa and Bahir Dar.
