He made the declaration in a broadcast deliver to the country on Wednesday evening.
Prior, Mr Zuma’s overseeing ANC party instructed him to leave or face a vote of no trust in parliament on Thursday.
The 75-year-old has been under expanding strain to offer approach to Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, the ANC’s new pioneer.
Mr Zuma, who has been in control since 2009, faces various assertions of defilement.
His renunciation came toward the finish of a long discourse in which he said he couldn’t help contradicting the way the ANC had acted towards him.
He said he didn’t fear a movement of no certainty, including: “I have served the general population of South Africa to the best of my capacity.”
